The TFX-500w transit time ultrasonic flow meter measures volumetric flow of clean water in pipes 10 in. or smaller. By clamping on the outside of the pipe, the ultrasonic meter installs without cutting or tapping the pipe.

APPLICATION

The TFX-500w meter is well suited for building automation, water distribution and wastewater collection in new and retrofit applications. In addition to having lower installation costs than an inline flow meter, the TFX-500w meter can be installed while the system continues to operate without interruption.
The TFX-500w meter is suitable for:

• Potable water
• Reclaimed water
• Chiller water
• Boiler feed water
• Make-up water
• Condenser water
• Condensate

OPERATION

Transit time flow meters use two transducers that function as both ultrasonic transmitters and receivers. The flow meters operate by alternately transmitting and receiving a frequency-modulated burst of sound energy between the two transducers. The burst is first transmitted in the direction of fluid flow and then against fluid flow. Since sound energy in a moving liquid is carried faster when it travels in the direction of fluid flow (downstream) than it does when it travels against fluid flow (upstream), a differential in the times of flight will occur. The sound’s time-of-flight is accurately measured in both directions and the difference in time-of-flight calculated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very slow customer service Very slow customer support. Device has power and display backlight is on but no digits. Customer support tells me to check transformer fuses and power, doesn't understand device has power. Was able to connect with a USB cable and programmed it so there's a reading until I hear back from warranty department, which is not faster than customer service. It's been a few days and still waiting for anyone to follow up with me.

What is the maximum allowable piping insulation thickness (or does the instrument need to be in contact with outside wall of the piping)?

Asked by: GJones
Thank you for your inquiry. The transducers must be in direct contact with the pipe wall inorder for the ultrasonic to penetrate thru and measure the flow rate.

What is the update rate of this flowmeter?

Asked by: JJ FF
Thank you for your inquiry! The update rate can vary but the default damping setting for these units is 40 seconds. Please see page 28 of the manual for further information regarding settings that affect the response time of the unit.

What is the minimum "straight run" of pipe that this can work with on 10" diameter pipe?

Asked by: safgsrt
Thank you for your inquiry. The Rule of Thumb for straight run pipe is 10x the pipe diameter upstream and 5x downstream.
