Product Overview
The OMEGA™ OS-MINI-Series is packed with a wide variety of infrared sensors designed to work for many applications and provide fast non-contact temperature readings. The miniature sensing head is ideal for space limiting areas, is manufactured using 316 stainless steel and has an IP65 rating. This robust, easy to use sensor is used in many industries including pharmaceutical, food, automation, manufacturing, plastics, paper, and much more!
OS-MINI and OS-MINI22 ModelsThe electronics module is available with several different options: The backlit touch screen interface provides a large, bright display of the measured temperature in digital format and a graph view that shows the history of the measured temperature. It also enables full configuration of the sensor including temperature range setting between -20 to 1000°C (-4 to 1832°F), adjustable filtering, peak or valley hold processing, emissivity setting and reflected energy compensation. In alarm conditions, the whole display changes color to provide an immediate and obvious alarm indication.
Alarm modes and levels can be configured via the touch screen. When fitted with a MicroSD card, the Omega MINI and MINI22 models also function as a data logger, providing a useful means of recording process temperatures for quality assurance and traceability. The user can select the sample rate and the number of samples to be taken and schedule the data logging to start at a certain time. With a 2 GB card, the user can store 28.4 million time and date stamped readings, which provides almost 1 years’ worth of data at the fastest possible sample rate of 1 per second. Output options include 4 to 20 mA, RS485 Modbus and alarm relays, which are rated 24 Vdc so there is no need for a separate trip amplifier. Optional accessories include mounting brackets, an air purge collar, protective lens cover and laser sighting tool.
OS-MINIUSB ModelThe OS-MINIUSB is a simple easy way to measure non-metallic surfaces between -20 and 1000°C (-4 and 1832°F), with a response time of just 125 ms. Some specific applications of the OS-MINIUSB include but not limited to:
Benchtop and LaboratoryWith the precision and robustness of our industrial pyrometers, and the plug-and-play convenience of USB, the OS-MINIUSB is the ideal fixed mount IR temperature sensor for testing and experimentation.
EducationThe OS-MINIUSB is ideal for teaching science concepts such as emissivity, reflectivity, thermal conductivity, energy transfer, insulation and internal energy.

This is a great product
Our lab purchased two of these thermometers at 20:1. They are very easy to install and great for monitoring surface temperatures. The only real downside for our purchases was the 6 week lead time.
The associated free software (OmegaConfig 1.08) is functional but a little clunky. Being able to switch between a digital temperature value and a graph while recording is handy, but the axes of the graph constantly autoscale, and it would be nice to be able to set these manually. The sensor logs all data automatically, so there's no separate save step necessary. This does mean parsing through a long log (.csv) file later, but there are handy divisions inserted in the file any time recording is stopped and restarted.

Switching between C and F childproofed.
Great sensor except for the fact that it took me a while to figure out how to change from deg. C to F. You'd think it'd be in the settings of the software or otherwise be very obvious. It's not obvious...

I'm wondering if the 4-20mA output is isolated so that if the PLC this would be wired to had the negative side of the loop tied to ground would it still work? An electrical drawing of the analog output circuitry would be ideal.
Thank you for your interest in our Products The output is not isolated, so if the PLC input is connected to ground, there could be a ground loop if the electronics module housing and/or the sensing head metalwork are grounded. This would not cause too much of an issue provided there are no switching currents in the ground, and the ground connections are all close together. We do not have an Electrical drawing of the analog output circuitry .

How close to the product does the probe need to be to accurately measure an in process manufactured consumable consumer good(food)? inches, 4-5', 10+ feet?
The sensor can measure from 10' away but the measurement spot size must be contained within the perimeter of what is being measured. The 20:1 ratio would have a 0.5" spot size right up at the lens and at 10' it would be about a 9" diameter. Refer to the diagrams on the data sheet to see what is the best distance to size ratio for your application.

Hi, is it possible to read out the entire spectrum (Planck's law) from the OS-MINIUSB-SN21, or any of the Omega IR sensors ? Thanks
Please send your inquiry to temp@omega.com for possible assistance.

Will this sensor allow reading of aluminum at a 45° angle to the material? Does reflection come into play here?
Highly reflective surfaces like Aluminum have a very low emissivity and are challenging to measure temperature with IR sensors. The closer to normal view the more likely a successful emissivity can be set and a valid reading can be achieved. In any case Omega recommends a physical sensor be used to make sure the IR sensor is set up and reading correctly.

Can I dip the sensor into a liquid? If it can, what is the max temperature of the liquid?
Thank you for your inquiry. N Ari. Unfortunately, this sensor cannot be exposed to any liquids. Exposure to liquids will damage the electronics in the sensor.

What is the base detection distance of the OS-MINI-HA201-MA-HT? That is, the distance the device can accurately detect temperature without use of additional optics. Thank you.
Thank you for your inquiry Frisko. The OS-MINI-HA201-MA-HT has a field of view of 20:1. It can measure the temperature of a spot size of 0.5 inches at a distance of 0". Please check the graph on the data sheet which shows how to get a specific spot size based on how far away the sensor is from the surface. This is a follow up to my previous question. You refer to the C4 communication option, not of the listed options are labeled C4. What are you referring to?
C4 option is for RS485 communication. This is listed as one of the options.

If I choose the no communication protocol option, will I be unable to download the temp vs time data?
Thank you for the inquiry. Data logging to internal micro SD card is available with the models with display option. C4 communication option provides logging of current readings to PC. C4 does not provide download of data from the internal SD card. See manual for other software functions availalble with the C4 option.
Best regards
OMEGA
