The FMA-2600A Series mass and volumetric flow controllers use the principle of differential pressure within a laminar flow field to determine and control mass flow rate. A laminar flow element (LFE) inside the meter forces the gas into laminar (streamlined) flow. Inside this region, the Poiseuille equation dictates that the volumetric flow rate be linearly related to the pressure drop. A differential pressure sensor is used to measure the pressure drop along a fixed distance of the LFE. This, along with the viscosity of the gas, is used to accurately determine the volumetric flow rate. Separate absolute temperature and pressure sensors are incorporated and correct the volumetric flow rate to a set of standard conditions. This standardized flow rate is commonly called the mass flow rate and is reported in units such as standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) or standard liters per minute (SLM).
The controller uses a true proportional valve coupled to the flow body to control flow using the integral PID loop controller. Standard units include a 0 to 5 V output (4 to 20 mA optional) and RS232 communications. The gas-select feature and the setpoints can be adjusted from the front keypad or via RS232 communications. Volumetric flow, mass flow, absolute pressure, and temperature can all be viewed or recorded through the RS232 connection. It is also possible to multi-drop up to 26 units on the same serial connection to a distance of 46 m (150').

I am interested in using Modbus protocol via RS232 to read data from this instrument. What register address correspond to what type of data (ie Mass flow, Volumetric flow, Pressure and Temperature)?

Is this tolerant of 100ppm SO2 or NO2?
Thank you for your inquiry. This controller can handle the corrosive gases in question, yet, you will need to purchase the '-LSS' version that is a custom part number which will be chemically compatible.

Is there another version on serial communication protocol for the FMA-2600 series that does not involve the HyperTerminal?
Thank you for your inquiry! Unfortunately, we do not offer any software with these units and with HyperTerminal not being included in newer Windows versions another program will be needed. Putty may be used as an alternate if HyperTerminal is not available

We have a FMA-2616A Mass Flow controller. Can we change the upstream valve configuration to downtream ourselves? Is there an introduction to the relevant operations? Is there a greater risk of damage to the instrument in such operations?

The mass flow controller can work in vacuum conditions and it is recommended to have it returned via the Customer Care Group at CSReturns@omega.com and request to have the existing controller be used in vacuum conditions. The valve must be physically placed downstream of the flow to control accurately.

Are the FMA-2600 series mas flow controllers rated for vacuum use?

Yes, it can, yet, the valve must be ordered with the valve on the down stream side of the controller and will have a suffix, '-DS.' to reflect. If not found on the website, please email flow@omega.com to request a quote for a controller with the '-DS.'
