The FMA-1600A Series mass and volumetric Omega's flow meters use the principle of differential pressure within a laminar flow field to determine the mass flow rate. A laminar flow element (LFD) insdie the meter forces the gas into laminar (streamlined) flow. Inside this region, the Poiseuille equation dictates that the volumetric flow rate be linearly related to the pressure drop along a fixed distance of the LFE. This, along with the viscosity of the gas, is used to accurately determine the volumetri flow rate. Separate absolute temperature and pressure sensors are incorporated and correct the volumetric flow rate to a set of standard conditions. This standardized flow rate is commonly called the mass flow rate and is reported in units such as standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) or standard liters per minute (SLM).

Standard units include a 0 to 5 V output (4 to 20 mA optional) and RS232 communications. The gas select feature can be adjusted from the front of the keypad or via RS232 communications. Volumetric flow, mass flow, or absolute pressure, and temperature can be viewed or recorded through the RS232 connection. It is also possible to multi-drop up to 26 units on the same serial connection to a distance of 125'. These flowmeters are also available in a portable version for use in the field (-B models).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Accurate and reliable Bought this flow meter to measure and calibrate the flow rate of Helium and Argon for a protein analyzer instrument. Without the meter, it's virtually impossible to know the exactly flow rate to calibrate it since the instrument doesn't response to change in flow rate. We waste a lot of precious Helium gas due to that. Now that it's calibrated, we can save money in the long run. Awesome!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2 units defective out of box The negative terminal was shorted to the body of the sensor and would not work unless the sensor was installed isolated from ground, which we couldn't do in our application. They are easy to disassemble, and the problem was obvious, as one of the wires that connects to the terminal extended about 1/2" past the point that it was soldered at, so the bare wire came into contact with the body of the sensor when it was assembled.

Hi, you may connect to the mass flow meter via a machine thread or NPT connection with sufficient straight run pipe or tubing, 10x the diameter of the pipe or tube upstream and 5x the diameter of the pipe or tubing downstream.

What are the voltage levels of the RS232 signals? -12V to +12V?

Thank you for your inquiry. The mass flow meters have by factory default a 0 to 5V signal output or as an option a 4 to 20 mA and the RS232 is available as serial communication.

Hi, is FMA-1601A usable for LPG with H2S and RSH mixture?

Can this sensor measure the flow rate of a duct with a mixture of air, dust, and particles? Is this sensor compatible with the program NodeRED?

Thank you for your inquiry. It is not recommended to have suspended particles in the air stream and will result in clogging the internal flow path and cause damage. This flow meter requires that the air flow be clean and dry and if the NodeRED can accept an analog input from the flow meter's output, yes.

I am interested in using Modbus protocol via RS232/RS485 to poll data from this instrument. Is this possible? And if so, what register address corresponds to what type of data (ie Mass flow, Volumetric flow, Pressure and Temperature)?
