works good for boiling water
I have bought several of these things over the years. 400 watts is not a lot of energy, but at 110 volt, this wattage is reasonable. omega sells a 220 version of this thing i have also used. boils water and lasts a long time. i have used these for continuous duty boiling. good part

Can these be turned on without being submerged in water? We are having issues with ours being turned on when water is not in the container.
These Heater are designed to work only when submerged and will fail in short order if not. They should be located in a tank were the liquid level never goes below were the full length of the Heater is located.

Curious what the temperature of the heater is? On the 37 w/in2 model.
Our immersion heaters need to be immersed in liquid while powered as to not overheat and fail. Because of the materials used in this heater we recommend a thermostat or controller limit the temperature to 266 deg F.

For the 1000w heater what is the highest temperature the unit will heat up to, if the unit is given full voltage and amps?
The Heater generates 1000 Watt of Heating capacity and the characteristics of what is being heated like gallons and the specific heat of what is being heated will determine the maximum temperature. The maximum working pressure for the EMH series Heaters is 100 PSI.
