The DMD4059 accepts an input from full Wheatstone strain bridge sensors, pressure transducers or load cells. It provides filtering, amplifies, and converts the millivolt input signal into the selected dc voltage or current output that is linear to the input. The 3-way 1200V isolation eliminates ground loops, common mode voltages and greatly reduces noise pick-up. Sense wire connections are available to give maximum accuracy. Input, output, excitation and zero offset are field configurable via external rotary and slide switches. Offsets of up to ± 100% of span can be used to cancel sensor offsets or tare fixed loads. Features such as red and green LEDs vary in intensity to show input and output activity and an output test button helps with set-up and troubleshooting.

Great Product with Support
This signal conditioner has a wide range of variable inputs and outputs. It is slim on the din rail so not much space is taken up. Made in the US. Support is readily available as opposed to other similar product manufacturers.

Strain Signal Conditioner
Seems decent. Simple instructions, and wiring diagram. Worried vibration will cause the zero drift.

Poor mechanical design
The zero and span pots are located well behind a paper thin escutcheon and are not centered behind the holes in the surface which makes them very difficult to find with a screw driver. The plastic spring mechanism for attaching to the DIN rail is very flimsy and does not hold the device securely.

Is this a single or multi-channel device? We would like to connect 4 load cells with different readings. Will 1 device be able to output each individual reading?
Hello, this is a single channel device, (you may use upto 4 load cells PROVIDED you are using a summing box, that sums the output of all four load cells).
In your case if you need outputs from each load cell, then you will need four separate signal conditioners.

On the DMD4059-DC model, I have one that reads almost the same pressure all the time when extruder is hot. When it is cool, the reading does not drop off. I have plugged new pressure transducer into it and it still does not read zero or anywhere close.

I am facing issue connecting Load cell to DMD4059-DC, whenever I connect load cell its input LED goes off also not getting any output signals. Can anyone help with troubleshooting?
The green input LED provides a visual indication that a signal is being sensed by the input circuitry of the module. It also indicates the input signal strength by changing in intensity as the process changes from minimum to maximum.
If the LED fails to illuminate, or fails to change in intensity as the process changes, check the module power or signal input wiring. Note that it may be difficult to see the LEDs under bright lighting conditions.
The red output LED provides a visual indication that the output signal is functioning. It becomes brighter as the input and the corresponding output change from minimum to maximum.
For current outputs, the red LED will only light if the output loop current path is complete. For either current or voltage outputs, failure to illuminate or a failure to change in intensity as the process changes may indicate a problem with the module power or signal output wiring.
Make sure that you have a jumper wire between 6 and 12. Please see wiring for "No Sense Leads" in the manual.
Make sure the resistance across the red and black wires in the load cell are 350 ohm.
Make sure the resistance across the green and white wires in the load cell are 350 ohm. (approximately)

For the DMD4059 Strain Gauge to DC Signal Amplifier, is this model able to handle a switching power supply? If it's supply voltage type is DC and it's given an alternating current, what would happen?
Both variants of the DMD4059 will run on AC or DC. The DMD4059-DC Low power version will run on 9 to 30 VDC or 10 to 32 VAC. The Standard DMD4059 will run on 80 to 300 VDC or 80 to 265 VAC. They will not work with a switching power supply.

Data sheet says "The DMD4059 accepts an input from 1 to 4 strain bridge sensors" - what is this? It only has 1 output - are the sensors in parallel? Is there a diagram of how to do this? Can it provide excitation to several sensors that use other amps?
Thank you for your question?
The unit will only power up to 4 sensors.
You are correct that the unit will only take one input.
Hope this was helpful.

DOes this device have noise filter? If so what is its cutoff frequency? To what EMI standard is it qualified for?
Thank you for your inquiry, The DMD4059 provides some filtering for stabilizing the signal. For more in-depth information about the filter please contact our Technical Support department @ support@omega.com

I'm trying to read the strain from a single strain gage. Can this device be used for that, or does it only work on a full bridge?
Daniel, The DMD4059 unit will work only with full bridge circuits, if you have a single strain gauge you may complete the bridge using a bridge completion module like the BCM-2-350R (assuming you have a 350 ohm strain gauge)
